SANDY+DERRICK
December 21, 2009Sandy, Derrick simply we adore you. I feel I have confidently done my job as a photographer when I really capture the spirit of the people captured through my lens. Yes, they really were that fun, loving, and happy. Sandy is one of THE NICEST people I’ve EVER met. Sandy, lets have shopping/dinner dates, capiche? Derrick’s charm is irresistible. I had more fun than should be allowed at their engagement and wedding. (Yes, they were married one week after their engagement session with us.) (Derrick-I’m really just trying to earn my way onto your boat this summer.) Oooooh Yes. That certain lake off of Lake Shore Drive and that has a Yacht club, lake. You know it. They know how to enjoy Chicago in the summer. ; ) Not that I’m jealous. Derrick & Sandy, thank you, thank you, thank you!

They wanted to capture them with their city, and I think we got it…

Da Bears Jerseys!

Why yes, I did make them stand in the middle of a busy highway with me. Hey, I was there too.
This makes me literally LOL. Although I SWEAR this was only coincidence, I have to reference the fabuloso Bobbi of Bobbi+Mike that posted one of her Chicago sessions a while before me and I remember quite clearly her mention of her um, “tripod” skills. I have my very own special tripod skillz too, Bobbi.
Here’s the post. (You’ll have to go down to the blurb at the bottom to see what I’m talking about.)
That night I was just rockin’ the original 5D with the 50.12 at 1.4, 1/6th of a second and ISO 50. Take THAT “tripod” action!!! Ladies are just sometimes craftier than boys…
Anyway, Derrick and Sandy- I now can’t wait to post the wedding!
Thanks for blogstalking,

BEN+LIZ
December 11, 2009Ben+Liz.
Word to your mother. I’ve had my share of seriously beautiful weddings just as any other photographer, but COME ON! These two have style, personality, style, style, personality, and a WHOLE load of beauty. Liz actually told me she was worried because she thought she was not photogenic. Um, Liz -I, and everyone thinks otherwise. Adam Levine Ben (couldn’t resist) was so intent and loving to Liz that it was completely intoxicating. I. LOVE. THIS. WEDDING.

Love it!
I nabbed this moment after the ceremony riiiiight before they shut the door on me. ; ) Point taken.

There is no just no way to manifest the correct words to summarize how much I love all the decor as well as how much it added to the atmosphere of the reception and wedding. I adore the vintage-esque photos of the two of them they incorporated.

Normally, I’m just not into posting reception photos but this was a serious P-A-R-T-Y. I feel like this is one of those receptions where everyone genuinely enjoyed themselves. Actually towards the end of the evening, Liz threw her hair back in a simple ponytail and continued to party on. : ) …Although I do think I got a black eye from being elbowed several times during the dancing portion of the evening. No pain. No gain, right?

Many many thanks to Ben, Liz, their friends, their family, (especially the dancing and singing mothers!!) for sharing with us. Thanks to my blogstalkers, for….blogstalking!

David Reilich: Amanda, I can't believe I am JUST getting to viewing these. What a nice job, I love your pairing and editing on this blog! Very nice. There are about six detail shots that I would love to use on my Facebook page. Let me know if you are up for that! Working with you two made the day even better. - David
Cathy and David: These are great Amanda. One of your best yet. The details are fabuloso! :-D Gotta say though, fav is the 'just before they shut the door on me' shot. :)
WHAT’S IN YOUR BROWSER?
December 2, 2009As is the life of a photographer, many of my mind numbing hours behind the computer are spent dredging through literally thousands of images per week. Editing, emailing, editing, editing, editing, emailing, and a dash of blogging pushed somewhere in the mix tends to be the norm these days. While I am a confidently focused person on the task at hand, sometimes I just have to let my mind wander the internet and alleviate the perpetual brainstorm. Or just walk away from the computer. Not that this is particularly interesting, but I have acquired some pretty good time wasters distractions. In no particular order:

I’m the self appointed Anti-Susie-Homemaker, but sometimes a girls gotta give a make 6 desserts for absolutely no reason in the span of 48 hours. Jus’ sayin’.
http://www.decorpad.com/index.htm
DecorPad is an online network mix of professional interior designers as well as people like myself. My favorite part is that it holds a huge gallery of photos to browse and find ideas that coordinate with a style or color palette. Once you click on a room you like, it will show you similar designs. I’m totally addicted. Here are some of my favorite rooms so far (as you can see I have multiple personality decorator disorder, otherwise, MPDD):
Okay, I’m guilty. I can’t actually believe that I’m putting this out here. Here are the 3 most things that I feel deteriorate my IQ, with the worst of them first.
Perez. Yes. Perez. I gotta know about Brangelina, okay? In a far second and third place, respectively, comes Twitter and Facebook. I’m not evening going to put a link to these. If you are reading this, there’s a 99% chance you know how to find it yourself.

Being a lover of all things beautiful, Beautiful Paper makes my list.
I love the examples of letterpress, and endless array of fonts, designs, and yummy ideas.
That’s it for now. I want to hear what is in your browser! I’m in dire need to shake things up at the office in my downtime. Won’t you share? I would love to hear the unique sites you visit often and maybe why they keep you coming back.
Thanks for blogstalking!

Jeremy: I'm a huge fan of uncrate.com, which is like a style guide for dudes with style, and the Brand New blog at http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew. And I was with you on all those until you mentioned Perez...
Amanda W.: Jeremy, uncrate.com is so cool! I often read and subscribe to Details magazine which reminds me of that. Also, I like www.thedieline.com/blog/ . Its kind of a twist on your branding site you mentioned, except its about packaging. I think I might actually edit to add that... Thanks!!
EXHALE.
December 1, 2009Exhale. Breathe in. Revel in each moment. Enjoy the stress. Its not always a bad thing, as it will come.
In my experience, my best weddings were not necessarily held at grand ballroom’s with $150K of floral arrangements. They weren’t dependent on a flawlessly clean alabaster dress and makeup that a tractor pull couldn’t remove. Tradition was seen as an option, not a requirement. Love and tears and laughter were cohesive. The only thing that mattered was a marriage and love shared. Once everything else took a backseat, ironically all that was left seemed to magically come together. And if it didn’t, well that’s okay too. Its always like that in life I presume.
As I was rifling through several weddings today I came along a particular and very truthful moment that illustrates though imagery much better than I can explain through my own words. (Hence why I’m a photographer.) This will live as one of my favorite photos I’ve taken to date.

John Moon: Save me a spot :)
John Edgar: Heelll yes! CANNOT wait to see what you do with this. You ROCK! :)
Leslie Edwards: I love this photos!! I need prices. I came acorss this and foudn what I like.. take amazing pics!!
